Javier Peña Ibáñez (b. 1985, Logroño) is an architect based in Madrid, working as a curator, researcher, educator, and consultant in the fields of architecture, design, and urbanism. He is the Director of Concéntrico, the International Festival of Design and Architecture in Logroño, and focuses on the management, curation, and promotion of cultural projects.

An architect trained at the Escuela Técnica Superior de Arquitectura de Madrid, Universidad Politécnica, Javier founded Concéntrico in 2015, a festival that explores architecture and the city through various projects. His work includes artistic direction for the TAC! Festival de Arquitectura Urbana, organized by the Government of Spain’s Ministry of Housing and Urban Agenda, with editions in Granada (2022), Valencia and San Sebastián (2023), and Vigo and San Fernando (2024). He co-curated the Madrid Diversa exhibition at CentroCentro (2022), and curated A Vision from Spain – New European Bauhaus in Brussels (2022). Additionally, Javier curated La Hoja at Matadero Madrid, an intervention at FAHR 021.3 (2021–2023), directed the documentary Punto de Inflexión (2020), and served as the urban curator for the Biennial La Forêt Monumentale in Rouen, France (2019). His other projects include Experimenta Pontevedra, the Festival de Diseño Urbano (2018), and the architecture program at the Biennial of Contemporary Art of Maia, Portugal (2019).

Javier has taught at institutions such as the Istituto Europeo di Design, Universidad Francisco de Vitoria, and DMAD, and has been a guest lecturer at several other renowned centers, including IESP Faculdades (Brazil), Cornell University’s College of Architecture, Art, and Planning (Rome), and the Architectural Association School of Architecture (London). He has served as a jury member for prestigious events such as the Biennial of Architecture in Romania, the Barcelona Building Construmat Awards curated by the Mies van der Rohe Foundation, and the COAM Architecture Week in Madrid. Additionally, Javier has given lectures at international conferences such as the ‘Ciudades que Hablan. International Symposium on Art in Public Space,’ organized by the Mayor’s Office of Bogotá, the annual INCITI – Research and Innovation for Cities conference in Recife, and the Tanween meeting at Ithra in Dhahran. He has also spoken in various Spanish cities, including Barcelona, Granada, Oviedo, Vitoria, Bilbao, and Madrid.
